2014 - A Year in Review

Wow. It's been a pretty long year! It always feels like the year goes buy really incredibly fast when you observe it from a daily life perspective, but in terms of art, you can really feel the length of a year. I was surprised some of these drawings were mere months ago, its felt like eons since I last drew them. I finally decided to do one of these things; I hadn't done them before so I had to make a little template thing.

This year was incredibly fulfilling. It doesn't feel that way when you near the end of the year, but when you think about it, it really has been. A lot has happened. Of one of the most surprising and wonderful things: I got back together with my young love, a very wonderful relationship indeed. But, just more than this happened this year. I learned to love myself, flourish, and grow. I struggled with severe depression as well as self esteem and confidence, but fought it off for the most part; it isn't as bad anymore. I lost some friendships this year, and also discovered the necessity of cutting off toxic relationships like a gangrene diseased arm. Most importantly however, I created as well as strengthened friendships, friendships which are so breathtakingly wonderful, fluid, and perfect that I wonder what I had done to deserve them.

I dealt with bullies and stalkers, death of a pet, illness of a relative, depression, excruciatingly difficult classes, a hectic school year, but I'm still here. I made it. I hope you all did, too. For those that didn't, may they have found their resting place and rest in peace.

Another aspect of this year which I am very happy about is that I can see a small improvement in my art! I didn't think I improved at all this year, I've always felt as though my artistic level remained stagnant and unchanging for the longest time. Turns out that you just need a different perspective and to look at things differently. There is indeed a difference between January and December, and that makes me quite happy. <3

This activity and discovery was very fun. I might do one for 2013 sometime just so I can see any visual arts improvement and style changes throughout that year. If you've done one of these, show me! I'd love to see how you've improved, flourished, and changed in the passing year.
